INTRODUCTION TO ETCHING

$120.00

$102 - $108 for members (Apply Member discount at checkout), $120 for non-members

Workshop Duration: 4 hours

Etching, or Intaglio, is a term for printmaking processes that involve either etching or engraving lines into a metal plate. These incised lines hold ink, while the raised areas of the metal plate do not, allowing for the line image to be wiped with ink and sent through the press to produce multiple identical prints on paper.

Introduction to Etching is a one-day crash course in this historical process. Students will learn multiple techniques for inscribing their own artwork onto a provided copper plate, chemically process and prepare the plate, and learn how to work with an etching press to achieve even pressure and produce a consistent edition of prints.

All materials will be provided, but we suggest bringing a notebook, pencil, and any source images you would like to use.

Printmaking is a fun and messy business. Please dress appropriately.

Please select the workshop date you would like to attend when checking out.
